As the winter months bring darker nights and lower temperatures, there’s nothing better than cosying up in a snug, warm home.

Making small changes like adding soft and tactile textures or choosing warm colours for your décor can have a big impact on the feeling of a space, making it seem warmer without having to turn the heating up.

Here are our ideas to create an inviting, warm home that everyone wants to spend time in this winter.

Pile on the texture

Layering is a great way to create a cosy atmosphere, and it's practical too; snuggling up under blankets and throws really keeps you warm when it's cold outside.

Combine different textures, from chunky knits to faux fur.

For an even more coordinated, cosy living room, choose cushions in the same fabric or one that colour matches your window dressing to create a finish that subtly flows through your whole room.

Warm colours for a warm feeling

Warm colours amp up the feeling of cosiness in a room, instantly making you feel warmer just be being there. Go for a palette that’s soft and natural to create that snug, inviting feel.

The fabrics in ourCalm Living collection come in a range of neutral hues to help you create restful and restorative spaces throughout your home.

Add warmth with wood

Weaving wooden elements throughout your décor can instantly warm up a space.

Incorporate wood furniture like a dresser or coffee table, wood shelving or accents like bowls, picture frames, and trays. This will add depth to your room and bring a sense of the natural world into your home.

You can even take wood to your windows with our range of Wooden blinds. Constructed using real wooden slats in warm tones, they’re perfect for creating spaces that feel naturally warm and welcoming.

Light it right

Nothing beats the warmth of natural lighting, but the colder months mean it’s darker much earlier. Bring that warm lighting back to your space by adding table lamps or candles to make a space feel more relaxing.

Create a softer, more intimate feel by switching of the ceiling light. Instead opt for lower-level lighting to illuminate dark corners.

Keep draughts at bay

Once you’ve created your perfect snug space, the last thing you want is the cold winter air creeping in through your windows and doors.

Any window dressing is going to help reduce draughts. For the best results, make sure yours fit well to prevent that cold air escaping into your room.

Thermal linings can really help when added to blinds and curtains. Or consider a specialist option like ThermaShade™ and Duette® honeycomb blinds. They create a barrier to trap cold air at the window.

Shutters are another effective solution, with excellent insulating properties that also block draughts to keep the cold out and the heat in.
